TV tonight: 'Gotham,' 'Big Bang,' 'Castle'

Robert Bianco
USA TODAY

Gotham
Fox, 8 ET/PT

Bruce (David Mazouz) and Selina (Camren Bicondova) try to think their way out of a bind on 'Gotham.'

After some early stumbles, this Batman origin story has really hit its stride of late — which will make it even harder to say good-bye as the show heads off for its holiday break. Tonight's fall finale finds Selina and Bruce on the run from assassins. Something tells me those kids will be all right.

The Big Bang Theory
CBS, 8:30 ET/PT

CBS is filling this spot with a Big Bang repeat tonight, having emptied it with the surprise cancellation of The Millers. Not that you can blame CBS: The Millers was struggling in the ratings, and its big move to boost its creative and popular fortunes — adding Sean Hayes to the cast — proved to be a disastrous mistake for him and the series, adding another layer of artifice to a show that desperately needed to become more grounded. Still, even if you can't mourn the sitcom, you can mourn the waste of talent, and hope that stars Will Arnett, Margo Martindale and Beau Bridges will find better TV work soon.

Castle
ABC, 10 ET/PT

Normally there wouldn't be much noteworthy about a crime-show episode in which one of the crime fighters is taken hostage; it's one of the genre's favorite plots. But in this case, the hostage is Esposito, and this entertaining mystery/comedy doesn't do all that many episodes that put someone other than Castle or Beckett in the spotlight.
