'The Voice' Battle Rounds: Adam Levine and John Legend duke it out over this double steal

Adam Levine.

The gloves are off and "The Voice" contestants are coming out swinging during the Battle Rounds.

Karly Moreno, 23, and Celia Babini, 17, entered the ring for the first head-to-head of the night. And let’s just say, it was one to remember. Adam Levine selected Marshmello & Anne-Marie’s "Friends" for the pair, a song that allowed for each singer to showcase their distinctive style.

In the end, Levine picked Babini's indie-inspired sound as the winner, but Shelton had the final say, enacting his first steal of Season 16.

"Karly has something about her voice that I just love," Shelton said after adding her to his team. "It’s very warm, it’s almost hypnotic. She’s definitely not like anyone in the competition."

The move may have signified a ceasefire between Shelton and Levine, often dueling frenemies on the show.

"Blake can I say one thing – dude you’re awesome," Levine said. "I’m so glad Blake picked Karly. Everything Blake has done, beside date Gwen, has been pretty much stupid, until now."

The compliment left Shelton suspicious (like the rest of us). He wondered how long the newly-formed bromance would last. "Ever since I stole Karly, I’ve been looking over my shoulder…I feel like I’m being set up for something because there is no way he truly thinks that. So either he’s been possessed or I’m in a dream right now,” said Shelton.

Turns out, the camaraderie didn't last long. In fact, they were back to their normal bickering selves during a double steal later in Monday's episode.

Kim Cherry, 30, and Kendra Checketts, 19, from Team Shelton, brought the house down with a powerful rendition of Alessia Cara's "Here," prompting a standing ovation from John Legend.

Shelton went with Cherry, and Legend and Levine were quick to hit their steal buttons.

"I have no idea what hillbilly (was thinking). I think you are amazing Kendra… it made me want to hear so much more," Levine said, while Legend added: "You would be one of the best singers if you joined my team."

Checketts opted to join Team Levine.

"I used my last steal on her…I love when I get to make Blake look dumb," Levine quipped.
