Emilia Clarke returns for the sixth season of 'Game of Thrones.'

The flow of series from overseas, which very often brings us welcome riches, continues with this drama from Ireland, a country that is not one of our usual suppliers.  This five-part miniseries starring Brian Gleeson, Ruth Bradley, Sarah Greene and Game of Thrones' Michelle Fairley, which splits its focus among Belfast, Dublin and London, follows the birth of modern (and divided) Ireland from the start of World War I.

Game of Thrones
HBO, 9 ET/PT

And speaking of HBO’s only drama hit, Games is finally back — and it returns under tighter security than many government secrets. (The opening episode has been shared with our head of government, but presumably he's not talking.) Still, at this point, previews might not matter. If you love the show, nothing anyone says is likely to keep you from watching — and if you don’t by this point, nothing is likely to pull you in.

Silicon Valley/Veep
HBO, 10 ET/PT

On the other hand, there is still a chance the uninitiated could join up with HBO’s two best comedies, both because they reset themselves each year and because they’re easier (and more pleasant) to digest. On Silicon, a deposed Richard must decide whether to leave the company he created or accept a lower position. On Veep, Selina tries to find an open path to the presidency.
