Jon Stewart is usually all about the laughs, but the comedian takes a serious turn in Rosewater — the first film he's directed — out Friday. Sitting down with USA TODAY, Stewart reveals that his foray into directing could signal a career change, as his Comedy Central contract is up next year. "That's generally how I approach things — I try and finish my plate before going back up," he says.
Obama heads to Burma to meet with Aung San Suu Kyi
Continuing his travels throughout Asia, the president visited with democratic icon and fellow Noble Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi in Burma on Friday. Although blocked from running for the presidency herself, Suu Kyi has been an active member of Parliament. Obama has supported her home country's embracing of democracy, and visited as a reminder that it should continue in that direction.
Man charged in Hannah Graham death in court
Jesse Matthew Jr., charged in the disappearance of a University of Virginia student who was found dead, has been moved to a Fairfax County facility where he faces three felony charges in relation to a 2005 sexual assault. Matthew is scheduled to appear in Fairfax County Circuit Court on Friday at 9 a.m. According to the indictment, Matthew, 32, faces charges of attempted capital murder, abduction and sexual penetration with an object in the 2005 incident, which involved a sexual assault on a 26-year-old woman who was walking home from a supermarket in Fairfax.
Third Ebola patient reported to be headed to Nebraska Medical Center
A third Ebola patient is headed to the special Biocontainment Unit at the Nebraska Medical Center this weekend, according to news reports. The Associated Press identified the patient as Martin Salia, a surgeon who was infected with the virus while treating victims in Sierra Leone, one of the hardest-hit areas of West Africa.
How about that freezing cold weather? Well, it's here to stay
From a blizzard in Oregon to arctic cold in Denver to lake-effect snow in the Great Lakes and a hard freeze along the Gulf Coast, two-thirds of the USA is enduring a freakish cold snap. Brace yourself, folks, because the big chill that's covering most of the USA is here to stay — at least well into next week. Residents in the Northwest should prepare for significant travel problems and disruptions through Friday due to a storm. Don't forget to bundle up!
