RAYMER, Co. – If there was a contest for 'most creative Christmas present,' this gift from a Colorado mom would definitely be in the running. When her daughter awoke Christmas morning, she awoke to a zebra. Well, sort of.

You see, Shelby Frye has always wanted a zebra as a pet and decided to request the animal from a higher authority this year: Santa Claus.

Kelly, Shelby's mom, says her daughter always makes colorful requests each year around Christmas time, hoping Santa will pull through.

"We told them we talked to Santa but he wasn't able to bring live animals in his sled for fear the animal would poop on all the good boys and girls toys," Kelly said.

Shelby's response was simple, "Put the zebra in a cage."

"She has always been a very strong-willed straightforward child," Kelly said.

Struggling with a response, Kelly came up with another excuse. She told her daughter she would need a permit to own a zebra. So Shelby asked for zebra permit from Santa Claus also.

Great.

Eventually, Kelly came up with an idea, but she needed help from one of Santa's elves.

Watch the video above to see how Shelby's Christmas wish came true!

"Christmas morning came early. When Brody read the letter to Shelby that said the elves had fun outside while Santa was putting gifts under the tree then she ran to the back door window to look out and there was a zebra ... priceless memory!!" Kelly said.
