In this Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015 file photo, an Afghan National Army soldier stands guard at the gate of a Doctors Without Borders hospital in Kunduz, Afghanistan. About 16 U.S. military personnel, including a two-star general, have been disciplined for mistakes that led to the bombing of the civilian hospital in Afghanistan last year that killed 42 people, a senior U.S. official said Thursday, April 28, 2016. According to officials, no criminal charges were filed and the service members received administrative punishments in connection with the U.S. airstrike in the northern city of Kunduz.

Discipline due in airstrike that hit Afghan hospital

The Pentagon on Friday is expected to announce disciplinary action against more than a dozen military personnel, including a general officer, for their role in a mistaken airstrike on a hospital in Afghanistan last fall that killed 42. The airstrike occurred during an intense battle in Kunduz after Taliban militants had seized the city. A military report determined that U.S. forces mistook the hospital, operated by the Doctors Without Borders aid group, for another compound that was serving as a Taliban headquarters.

Football fan frenzy continues with Day 2 of NFL draft

The NFL draft’s first round is in the books, but the three-day event — along with the media circus that surrounds it — rolls on Friday with the second and third rounds in Chicago. Cal's Jared Goff was an unsurprising No. 1 overall pick by the Los Angeles Rams. Meanwhile, top offensive line prospect Laremy Tunsil slipped to the Miami Dolphins with the No. 13 pick after a video of him smoking a bong while wearing a gas mask surfaced, among other private details.

Will and Kate celebrate fifth anniversary

Five years after their spectacular royal wedding, Prince William and the former Kate Middleton are still living the blissful life. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Britain's future king and queen, celebrate their fifth anniversary Friday. Along with their huge popular appeal, William and Kate have become "the faces of the future of the monarchy in the new generation," says royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith. They've also produced the requisite "heir and a spare" — the wildly photogenic Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

California's GOP convention to test candidates

The GOP candidates might get a glimpse of what lies in store for them in California’s June 7 primary at Friday's state’s convention. Front-runner Donald Trump is expected to speak outside San Francisco to hundreds of party insiders. John Kasich also is expected to speak Friday, while Ted Cruz and his running mate, Carly Fiorina, speak Saturday. Trump appears to be leading in the state, and a poll released earlier this month found the billionaire with an edge over Cruz, with Kasich trailing behind.
