Springsteen, Jordan, DeGeneres to get Medal of Freedom

The celebrity wattage will be blinding at the White House on Tuesday as 21 entertainers, athletes, scientists and other newsmakers receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor. This year's list includes musicians Bruce Springsteen and Diana Ross, as well as Hollywood giants Tom Hanks, Robert DeNiro, Robert Redford and Cicely Tyson. From TV, there's Ellen DeGeneres and Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels. Basketball legends Michael Jordan and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and broadcaster Vin Scully represent the sports world. Bill and Melinda Gates and others made the list.

Gov. Haley seeks healing prayers for South Carolina

Gov. Nikki Haley is asking South Carolina residents to pray amid two racially charged murder trials in Charleston and the ongoing recovery from Hurricane Matthew. Haley has asked all places of worship to hold a prayer vigil at noon Tuesday and says she plans to be at "Mother Emanuel" AME Church in Charleston, where nine black worshipers were gunned down last year. A federal judge is weighing whether Dylann Roof, who is accused in the massacre, is competent to stand trial. Also under way is the trial of former North Charleston officer Michael Slager, who is accused of fatally shooting a black motorist in the back as he fled.

Police tape surrounds the parking lot behind the AME Emanuel Church as FBI forensic experts work the crime scene on June 19, 2015.

Who will win the mirror ball trophy on DWTS?

One lucky couple gets the glitter and glory Tuesday as Dancing with the Stars wraps up its two-night finale with the naming of the season's champion (ABC, 9 p.m. ET/PT). On the first night, country singer Jana Kramer and her partner were eliminated, but all in all the episode was about redemption. Among 13 contestants, only four — Kramer, Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez, race car driver James Hinchcliffe and retired NFL wide receiver Calvin Johnson Jr. — made it through to the finals. Here’s a look at each of their unique journeys.

Kanye West will not be appearing tonight

If you were planning to see Kanye on Tuesday night, or any night thereafter, sorry. He’s canceled all his shows. The 39-year-old rapper was due to play Fresno, Calif., on Tuesday, with 20 more concerts on his Saint Pablo Tour through the end of the year. But the mercurial West pulled the plug Monday following two controversial shows. Hours later, NBC News and TMZ reported that West was taken to UCLA Medical Center for observation. West raised eyebrows on Thursday in San Jose, Calif., when he said he "would've voted on Trump" and praised the president-elect's campaign as "absolutely genius." He fanned the flames Saturday in Sacramento when he ranted about Beyoncé, Jay Z, Hillary Clinton and others, ending the show after about 30 minutes.

Name of the new NHL team in Las Vegas to be revealed

After some back-and-forth over trademark issues, the name and logo of the NHL's newest expansion franchise in Las Vegas finally will be unveiled Tuesday night. While there are plenty of Las Vegas-esque names out there, owner Bill Foley has said the NHL made it clear it should have no association with gambling. The name is expected to include "Knights," according to the Las Vegas Sun. The franchise is the NHL’s 31st team and the first major professional sports franchise in Las Vegas. Games, expected to start with the 2017-18 season, will be played at T-Mobile Arena, right off the Strip.
