An American Airlines passenger was grounded Tuesday after he became upset with flight attendants who wished him a Merry Christmas.

One American Airlines passenger was not feeling the holiday spirit on Tuesday at LaGuardia Airport.

A passenger became "irate" when a gate agent wished him a Merry Christmas as he boarded American Airlines flight 1140 to Dallas Fort Worth, according to Josh Freed, a spokesperson for American Airlines.

Freed said the passenger boarded the airplane and demanded to know the name of the gate agent.

According to The New York Post the passenger became upset after he was wished a Merry Christmas multiple times, first by the gate agent and then by a flight attendant. The New York Post reported that the passenger told the attendant, "You shouldn't say that because not everyone celebrates Christmas."

Freed says the passenger became "verbally aggressive towards the flight attendant and was asked to leave the plane."

Passengers reportedly cheered as the grumpy passenger was escorted off the plane, though Freed said he was not able to confirm this.

The unknown passenger was booked on a later flight, without incident, according to Freed.
