Crash victim's dad warns of GoFundMe fraud

Screen shots of fundraising campaigns apparently set up to raise money for the funeral of Brianna Rodriguez, who died in a car crash last week in California. Her family says they don't know who set up the campaigns.

The father of a woman who was among four people killed Friday in a California car crash believes some people are cashing in on the fatal tragedy.

Javier Rodriguez said he's seen several fundraising sites created online under his daughter's name, but he doesn't know who launched them. The sites, including one on GoFundMe, asks for the public's help to pay funeral costs.

"One account just raised $4,000 just like that, they took that account down," Rodriguez said. His 20-year-old daughter Brianna Rodriguez was killed in Friday's crash.

Rodriguez said he or his family never authorized friends or any relatives to start collecting money. He is warning the public not to fall victim to the scams.

"I don't know who these people are and people are sharing them," Rodriguez said.

Brianna Rodriguez was one of four people who were killed in a head-on crash in Fair Oaks, Calif., near Sacramento, early Friday morning.

Javier Rodriguez says he has set up an official GoFundMe page to help bury his daughter.

"If money comes in, it's going to be used for her, her services," said Javier.
