Man finds burglar asleep in guest bedroom

Marcelino Benito, KHOU 11 News

HOUSTON -- Inside his townhome, Kevin Connolly was fast asleep. Downstairs in the guest bedroom, so was the guy police later charged with robbing his home.

"I saw him as I came around the corner, he was passed out, sleeping right there," said Connolly. "He was so passed out, I tried to verbally wake him, but nothing."

In this photo shot by Houston resident Kevin Connolly, an alleged burglary suspect lies asleep in the guest bedroom of the house police say he was in the midst of robbing.

So he snapped some photos and called the cops. Police say Christopher Provazek is the guy curled up and catching some Z's. He was wearing one of Connolly's stolen jackets, and had taken his shoes off.

The suspect got in through the back door. It was wide open when Connolly noticed something wasn't right.

"This is where the bag was," said Connolly. "In the morning I realized it wasn't there."

The alleged thief had rummaged through closets, snatched his new ski clothes, an iPad, laptop, guitar — even his dog's ashes, says Connolly. He made several trips back and forth before dozing off downstairs.

But this story gets even crazier. It turns out the suspect is a neighbor who lived just two blocks away.

"All my stuff was spilled on his front porch," said Connolly.

Police recovered it all, right next to an empty bottle of booze.

Provazek was arrested, and burglary of a habitation charges are pending.
