Ammo factory explosion kills 1 in Tenn.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- One person was killed and three injured an explosion at an ammunition factory Wednesday near McEwen, Tenn.

The unidentified victim was one of four people who were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center after the blast, hospital spokesman Craig Boerner said.

One man is in critical condition, while two others remain in stable condition, he said.

Emergency crews from Hickman and Humphreys counties were sent to the property of Accurate Energetic Systems after a blast occurred that "pretty much destroyed the building" there, said Odell Poyner, director of the Humphreys County Emergency Management Agency.

Ten to 12 people were at the building when the explosion occurred, Poyner said.

The building is operated by Rio Ammunition, which makes different types of ammunition for hunting, law enforcement and the military.

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the explosion, Poyner said.
