A house covered in birthday cake art burned the morning of Sept. 30, 2014 at the edge of the arson-plagued Heidelberg Project at Heidelberg Street near Ellery in Detroit.

DETROIT — Another Heidelberg Project house has burned — the 12th in 18 months to go up in flames in the art installation project on Detroit's east side.

The Taxi House on Mount Elliot remains standing after the blaze in the two-block art project.

According to a posting on the Heidelberg Project's website, the Taxi House, at the end of Heidelberg Street, is still standing despite its age and primarily wooden construction.

A picture on the website shows the blackened, burned back of the house which has colorful pictures of taxis on the side.

"As of now, we don't know much about the fire and are still trying to learn as much as we can," according to the posting. "This fire comes only a year after a string of arson attacks destroyed four HP home in less than one month. As we have been taking time to reflect on that chaotic period, we have been repeatedly reminded of the love we received from all of you."

The posting added that "spirits are high. We know one thing better than ever: 'You can't burn a vision.'"

In September, the Cake House or Birthday Cake House, which had colorful painted cakes on its exterior, was set ablaze.

The Heidelberg Project, founded by Tyree Guyton in 1986, has been the target of arson fires since the Obstruction of Justice House burned in May 2013. Among the other houses that were targeted were the Party Animal House and the Penny House.

The project was originally designed as a creative response to blight and decay in the neighborhood where Guyton grew up.
