Woman found dead, bound in suitcase, on side of Connecticut road, police say
Ryan W. MillerA woman was found dead in a suitcase, bound at her hands and feet, on the side of a Connecticut road on Tuesday, police said.
Authorities were working to identify the victim so that they could notify her next of kin, Greenwich police captain Robert Berry told reporters Tuesday evening.
The woman appears to be between 18 and 30 years old, and police have received some leads to help identify her, he said.
A highway worker noticed the suitcase around 15 feet off the side of the road Tuesday morning and alerted police, Berry said. The worker investigated further as part of "routine duties," he added.
"We have no doubt that there was a homicide involved," Berry said.
Berry wouldn't say what was used to bind the victim's hands and feet, but he said she was clothed. He described the suitcase as "full size."
"It's not something that you would put on the overhead bin on an aircraft," he said.
The woman did not die at the location where the suitcase was found, but investigators aren't yet sure how or when she was killed, Berry said.
According to the Greenwich Time, which shared video of police news conferences on its Facebook page, the area where the woman was found is "quiet" and "residential."
ABC-7 described the area as the "picturesque and affluent Glenville section." "It was very upsetting when we originally heard about it," an area resident, Courtney King, told the TV station.
