Semi-truck hauling 41,000 pounds of meat catches fire on interstate in Wisconsin
GRAND CHUTE, Wis. — No one was injured after a semi-truck hauling 41,000 pounds of meat caught fire on Interstate 41 Monday morning in eastern Wisconsin.
The incident near Appleton happened just before 6 a.m., according to the Grand Chute Fire Department.
Fire crews arrived on scene to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the trailer.
They were able to extinguish the flames using two engines and a water tender, the fire department said.
The northbound lanes on I-41 were shut down immediately to allow crews room to fight the fire, the release stated.
Certain on-ramps to the interstate were also shut down to help control traffic.
The stretch of highway was closed for about four hours as the Outagamie County Highway Department cleaned up the mess.
No dollar loss estimate for the semi has been given yet, the fire department said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
