LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A 26-year-old man accused of shooting two Louisville Metro Police officers in September has been indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury, according to a news release from Jefferson Commonwealth's Attorney Tom Wine's office.

Larynzo D. Johnson faces two counts of first-degree assault and 33 counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, the news release said.

He is being held on a bond of $1 million and is scheduled for arraignment at noon Nov. 23.

Johnson is alleged to have "fired a handgun at police officers during a protest gathering" on Sept. 23, the news release said. That was the first night of demonstrations over a grand jury's decision to indict only one of the three officers to fire their weapons at Breonna Taylor's apartment.

Two officers — Maj. Aubrey Gregory and Officer Robinson Desroches — were struck and wounded, while other officers and civilians were "endangered by the gun fire," Wine's spokesman, Jeff Cooke, said in the release.

A copy of the indictment was not immediately available.

Johnson was originally charged with 14 counts of wanton endangerment, "all directed against police officers,"  then-interim Chief Robert Schroeder said in September. He pleaded not guilty to those charges.

Gregory was shot in the hip, and Desroches was struck in the abdomen, Schroeder said.

Gregory returned to work a week after being shot, while Desroches was released from the hospital in early October.

Both were acknowledged with special proclamations by Councilman Anthony Piagentini, R-19th District, for "outstanding sacrifice and service" at the Metro Council's Nov. 5 meeting.
