SEBASTIAN, Fla.— Police found a 93-year-old woman’s body in a large freezer in the garage of a Florida home she shared with her daughter.

The woman's body was found after a call from a concerned neighbor who hadn't seen her for a long time led to a Thursday welfare check at the residence, the Sebastian Police Department said Friday.

As of Friday evening, no one had been arrested in the woman’s death.

A police spokesperson said the results of an autopsy and blood tests would be used to determine the likelihood of any potential charges.

Officers were called for a welfare check at the home of Marie Hoskins in the 100 block of Paddock Street in Sebastian, around 70 miles southeast of Orlando, on Thursday.

Police first made “multiple unsuccessful attempts” to enter the home and then obtained a key with the help of an out-of-town family member to get inside where they found and questioned the woman’s 64-year-old daughter, according to Wood in a news release.

Police have not publicly identified the daughter.

Police said she told them she hadn’t seen her mother in a while, but as officers searched the property for Hoskins, they reported finding her body in a garage freezer.

Following the discovery, detectives obtained a search warrant for the property. Detectives worked into the early morning hours Friday recovering the body and evidence from the property, said police spokesperson Capt. Timothy Wood.

No information was available Friday from the medical examiner or state prosecutors.

Tax records show Hoskins lived at the home since 2006, which she owned with a George Vannoy before his death at 86 in March 2019.

Wood said he was unsure how long the daughter has lived at the residence, but said she was cooperating with police in the ongoing investigation.
