Airline investigates after spat between flight attendants captured on ESPN anchor's TikTok

A disagreement between the flight attendants over whether to allow a first-class passenger to switch seats with someone in coach led to shouting, tears and a refusal to work with each other

An airline has launched an internal investigation after a spat between two flight attendants was documented by an ESPN anchor on TikTok and Twitter.

ESPN's Ashley Brewer said the disagreement between the SkyWest flight attendants on Saturday's flight from Los Angeles to Houston came after a woman in first class asked if she could give up her seat to a coach passenger so that she could sit by her husband.

A male flight attendant said yes, but a female flight attendant said no and that it is against the rules, Brewer said in a TikTok

While the first-class passenger was fine with the decision, the disagreement between the flight attendants only got worse, according to Brewer.

Plane tracker FlightAware recorded that flight 4860, being operated by SkyWest for American Eagle, landed one hour and two minutes later than scheduled.

In a statement, SkyWest said it "is aware of reports regarding a flight attendant issue" involving the flight.

"We regret the delay this caused for our passengers and apologize for any inconvenience," the airline said. "We hold all our employees to the highest standards of professionalism and are conducting an internal investigation related to this flight."

Airline spokespeople did not answer whether either flight attendant had been disciplined as of Wednesday.

Tale of the tiff on TikTok

Brewer told her TikTok followers that the two flight attendants were openly bickering in the aisles over the rules.

"The lady sitting next to me was like, 'Oh my gosh, it's not that big of a deal. Stop fighting,'" Brewer said. "But they just had some beef or something. So they kept going back and forth."

At one point the male flight attendant began yelling at the female flight attendant, which sent her running to the front of the plane and crying, Brewer said.

Shortly after, Brewer said the woman declared, "I'm not flying with him."

"So then we all sat down and we just waited and waited and waited and it was a whole big thing," she said.

'Most unprofessional thing I've ever witnessed'

Brewer first started posting about the argument on Twitter, writing that her plane couldn't take off because the two flight attendants were refusing to work together.

"We’re sitting here waiting for them to talk it out but nope!" she wrote. "Lady wont budge. She reopened the door and all … Most unprofessional thing I’ve ever witnessed in my life."

Brewer continued to write that she only had 24 hours to go visit her fiancé, Houston Rockets player Frank Kaminsky.

"It's now 22 because @AmericanAir attendants are being petty," she said, adding the hashtag, #justiceforfrank.

A new crew

Although Brewer wrote that the flight attendants refused to work together it's unclear whether they walked off the job or were both ordered off the plane.

In another TikTok, Brewer recorded as she said a gate crew arrived on the flight to try to mediate.

Eventually a new crew arrived and "were so positive and happy."

"They just totally changed the whole vibe of the whole flight and they obviously saved us from what was a two-hour delay to being even further," she said.
