A Republican Arizona congressman called a former state legislature candidate a "porn loving whiny bitch" after the Democrat publicly called him a "pig."

Rep. Paul Gosar sent the tweet Wednesday night in response to criticism he received days prior over his proposal to make Cesar Chavez's birthday "National Border Control Day."

Steve Weichert, who sought a state Senate seat in 2018, slammed the proposal and Gosar in a tweet, calling him "a pig" who is "unworthy of the office he now holds."

That prompted Gosar's response.

"Steve is ignorant of history and a liar," wrote Gosar, a five-term congressman. "He says 'We need more bipartisanship — in the State Capitol and in Washington — if we're going to solve the very real challenges we face' then calls me a 'pig.' What a little bitch."

Weichert noted another Gosar tweet Thursday, that said, "Porn loving whiny bitch (Weichert) schooled here. Boom." That tweet was not available in Gosar's Twitter feed Friday morning.

Name-calling and controversy have become constants for Gosar, who has repeatedly attracted national headlines for controversial statements.

In the run-up to the 2018 election, six of Gosar's siblings starred in campaign ads asking Arizona voters to vote for his Democratic opponent. He also suggested the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville was planned by an "Obama sympathizer."

"Saturday Night Live" spoofed him last month for his questioning of Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump's former personal lawyer and "fixer" who is headed to prison for a series of fraudulent statements.

Weichert, a hospital administrator, lost a race for the state Senate last year. In 2017, Weichert claimed his Twitter account had been hacked by someone who sent pornographic images over it.

Weichert said on Thursday that Gosar's comments about him have only shown he was correct about Gosar.

"Just proves my point that our Congressional dentist (Gosar) is unfit for the office he now holds. I stand by my words," he tweeted.
