Poll: Trump verdict has not really changed voters' minds about 2024 race

WASHINGTON — Former President Donald Trump’s conviction last week may not have much impact on the 2024 race, according to a new poll, as the verdict has not largely shifted the minds of voters.

The 19th News/SurveyMonkey poll, conducted between May 30 and May 31, found that 9% of survey respondents are planning on changing their vote in the 2024 race after hearing the verdict.

However, the percentage voting for each candidate remains the same.

Three percent of respondents would change their vote to Trump, while 3% changed their vote away from Trump, the poll found. One percent of respondents would change their vote to Biden while 1% changed their vote away from Biden. Five percent of respondents noted another change, such as voting for another candidate, undecided or not voting.

Overall, 34% of respondents said they would vote for Trump, 30% for Biden and 5% for another candidate. Twenty percent of voters said they were undecided, 9% said they weren't planning on voting and 2% gave no answer.

The poll found that opinions on the verdict were mainly split across party lines, with 86% of Democrats agreeing with the verdict and 73% of Republicans disagreeing with the verdict.

The poll, conducted among a national sample of over 5,000 adults ages 18 and older, has a margin of error of plus or minus 1.5 percentage points.

Other polls have also shown that voter's views are mostly unchanged and along party lines following the verdict. For instance, an ABC News/Ipsos poll conducted between May 31 and June 1 found that Trump’s favorability hasn’t changed much since his conviction. Some 31% of survey respondents had a favorable opinion of Trump, a slight uptick from 29% in a March poll.

Trump’s sentencing in the hush money case is scheduled for July 11.
