Kamala Harris references Kendrick Lamar's 'Not Like Us' in 2024 spot with Taraji P. Henson

WASHINGTON − Vice President Kamala Harris referenced rapper Kendrick Lamar’s now-viral diss track "Not Like Us" while discussing the 2024 election in a spot with actress Taraji P. Henson.

A pre-recorded clip that aired Sunday night featured Harris having a video call with Henson, who served as the host of this year’s BET Awards. Henson told Harris that she was worried about the upcoming election, saying reproductive rights and the Supreme Court are “on the line” while basic freedoms “are being tested.”

“Madam VP, I know you've been traveling across the country. What are you hearing?” Henson asked in the call.

Harris replied “The majority of us believe in freedom and equality, but these extremists, as they say, they’re ‘not like us,'” Harris said.

Vice President Kamala Harris speaks with D.L. Hughley highlighting how the Biden-Harris Administration has taken historic steps to advance economic opportunity by improving access to housing, creating jobs and investing in small businesses as part of her nationwide Economic Opportunity Tour on Thursday May 16, 2024 at Discovery World in Milwaukee, Wis.

Harris added that there is a “full attack on our fundamental freedoms,” including the freedom to vote, to “love who you love” and more.

When Henson asked later in the call what can be done, Harris emphasized the importance of registering to vote and getting others to do the same.

The clip was paid for by the Biden Harris campaign. The issues that Harris and Henson appeared to discuss covered the top debate President Joe Biden's campaign has focused on while courting voters across the country, including voting rights, abortion rights and control of the Supreme Court.

Biden at a fundraiser last month said the winner of the November election will likely have two Supreme Court appointments, calling the impact on the Supreme Court "one of the scariest parts" of a potential second term for former President Donald Trump.

“Not Like Us,” released in May, was a diss track about Drake in the midst of a heated battle between the Canadian rapper and Kendrick Lamar. It launched as No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
