Why sand is surrounding Trump and Clinton tonight

Police and dump trucks lined the streets outside of Trump Tower on Tuesday.

No, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton aren't trying to make their election night watch parties beach themed.

Dump trucks filled with mounds of sand lined the streets outside of Trump Tower and the Javits Center, where Trump and Clinton are watching the results tonight, respectively, in order to provide protection.

In the event of a bomb threat, the trucks filled with sand will add a layer of protection to the outside of the buildings. New York City Police officers lined the streets outside each building too. Trump Tower was also closed to the public today, The Daily Caller reported.

The Javits Center is located on 11th Avenue between 34th and 40th streets while Trump Tower is just over two miles away on 5th Avenue.

Trump had originally planned to spend the night at the Hilton Hotel on 6th Avenue, but tweeted that he would be watching with family and friends in Trump Tower.
