Trump's day: Meetings, travel ban, and maybe a Supreme Court pick

President Trump's schedule Monday features a variety of meetings as he and aides continue to defend a new travel ban from seven Muslim countries — and also ponder a new nomination to the Supreme Court.

As protesters, lawmakers, and even some Republicans criticize the travel ban, Trump and aides will likely continue to defend it as a temporary measure needed to develop new vetting procedures for people entering the country. The new Trump executive order is the subject of lawsuits and congressional efforts to change the policy.

"To be clear, this is not a Muslim ban, as the media is falsely reporting," Trump said in a Sunday statement. "This is not about religion — this is about terror and keeping our country safe."

Meanwhile, Trump aides are hinting that he may move up his Thursday announcement about a new Supreme Court justice — perhaps to Monday.

Candidates to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia include three federal appeals court judges: Neil Gorsuch, Thomas Hardiman and William Pryor.

Also on Trump's schedule Monday, according to the White House:

• A "breakfast and listening session with small business leaders;"

• Sign another executive order, one aides have not identified;

• A meeting with White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus;

• Lunch with Vice President Pence;

• A meeting with his director of the Domestic Policy Council, Andrew Bremberg.

• Meetings with "presidential personnel" and the National Economic Council.
