Ukraine’s parliament voted Thursday to appoint Volodymyr Groysman as the country's new prime minister.

Parliament speaker Volodymyr Groysman attends a parliamentary session in Kiev, Ukraine, Wednesday, April 13, 2016.

Grosyman, 38, who served as the speaker of parliament since November 2014, is the country’s youngest prime minister, the Kyiv Post reported.

Lawmakers voted by 257 to 50 to approve Groysman's appointment and accept the resignation of previous Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, who announced he was stepping down Sunday, the BBC reported.

The appointment of Groysman, a loyalist of President Petro Poroshenko, could end a political crisis that began in February.

Yatsenyuk's government survived a no-confidence vote on Feb. 16, soon after the Poroshenko asked Yatsenyuk to step down, saying he lost the country’s trust and the coalition’s support, the BBC reported. It followed criticism of Yatsenyuk for slow reforms and amid allegations of corruption.
