Rescuers work at the shore west of Bergen, Norway, on April 29 after a helicopter transporting workers from an offshore oil field in the North Sea crashed.

A helicopter carrying 13 people crashed Friday near the Norwegian city of Bergen killing at least 11, police said

Morten Kronen, a police spokesman, said the helicopter was "totally smashed."

Eleven bodies have been located but 2 people were still missing. The crash took place on Turoey, an island near Bergen.

Flightradar24, an online flight tracking service, said the helicopter is likely a Eurocopter EC225 from CHC Helikopter Sevice. CHC primarily operates to oil platforms located in the North Sea.

NRK, Norway's state broadcaster, said 11 of the 13 people on board were employed by Norwegian oil and gas company Statoil ASA.

Norway’s Joint Rescue Coordination Center said there were 11 Norwegian nationals, one Briton and one Italian on the helicopter.
