The Daily Money: NHTSA launches investigation into some Teslas over faulty seatbelts

Happy Tuesday everyone. It's Charisse Jones with your Daily Money headlines.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is looking into reports from some Tesla owners that their seatbelts are detaching while they drive.

The inquiry affects roughly 50,000 Tesla Model X SUVs from the model years 2022 and 2023.

The complaints that sparked the investigation came from two Tesla drivers.

"Both vehicles were delivered to the owners with insufficiently connected anchor linkages," NHSTA wrote, adding that the seat belts were not appropriately connected when the vehicle was manufactured.

This latest investigation of an alleged malfunction comes on the heels of another NHSTA inquiry into 2023 Model Y Teslas after complaints that the vehicle's steering wheels could detach while the SUV is in motion.

Walt Disney Co. to reportedly begin layoffs

The Walt Disney Co. will begin laying off employees this week, according to various news reports.

Disney CEO Bob Iger wrote in an internal memo that staffers would be told if they were losing their jobs in three rounds, with the first happening this week, according to reports from CNN, Axios and CNBC.

"Leaders will be communicating the news directly to the first group of impacted employees over the next four days," he said on Monday, according to Axios.

Disney did not immediately respond to USA TODAY's request for comment.

"A second, larger round of notifications will happen in April with several thousand more staff reductions, and we expect to commence the final round of notifications before the beginning of the summer to reach our 7,000-job target," according to a separate CNBC report.

If you drink Pepsi, get ready for its new look. The soft drink is getting a fresh logo in celebration of its 125th anniversary. A bold "PEPSI,'' displayed over red, white and blue stripes and sitting within a thin black circle will replace the sleeker font that's been the beverage's signature since 2008.
