Sleep at work as protest

Ron Hassner has been sleeping in his office for nearly two weeks.

The political science professor at the University of California, Berkeley, is sleeping at work in protest of his employer's response, or alleged lack thereof, to antisemitism on campus amid the Israel-Hamas war. He says administrators have failed to act on a list of demands he presented after recent incidents at the school.

Hassner is one of more than 20 other faculty across California, including at Stanford and San Francisco State University, who are holding their own "sit-ins" this week in solidarity. Since the Israel-Hamas war started last year, college professors have been in the crosshairs of the conflict on campuses, addressing free speech concerns while protesting. While Hassner's employer said it supports his right to protest, whether any difference comes of his nights at school are yet to be seen.
