NFL Week 15 breakdown: Tom Brady was frustrated. The Pack is back in the playoffs. Ravens gamble again on two-point try.
Week 15 is (almost) in the books. Here were some of Sunday's highlights:
- Tom Brady got shut out Sunday night. You don't see that very often.
- The Packers were the first team to secure a playoff berth.
- The Ravens lost another heartbreaker after going for two at the end.
- The Lions pulled off one of the season's most stunning upsets.
- That Lions win meant that the Jaguars are now in position for the No. 1 draft pick.
Week 15 has been wild ... and there are still four more games to be played!
The madness of the weekend was capped by the images of a frustrated Tom Brady as his Buccaneers were shut out by the Saints. It was the first time since 2006 that Brady was handed such a defeat.
The Buccaneers weren't the only contender to stumble this weekend. The Patriots fell to the Colts and Titans fumbled away a game in Pittsburgh, which put the Chiefs into position to attain home-field advantage in the AFC playoffs.
For the second time in three weeks, the Ravens went for two in an attempt to take a lead late in a game. For the second time in three weeks, the Ravens failed on said two-point try. The Ravens' loss thrust the Bengals atop the AFC North, which could have a new leader if the Browns win Monday.
NFL Week 15 analysis
- Winners and losers: While the Buccaneers and Cardinals had a rough Sunday, the week couldn't have gone better for the Chiefs.
- 32 things we learned: Nine of the AFC's 16 teams have seven or eight victories, and this is the first time since 2002 that no AFC team will have secured a playoff spot entering Week 16.
- Playoff picture: There was a major shakeup in both conferences as some aspiring contenders stumbled.
- First-round draft order: The Lions' stunning win vaulted the Jaguars into the pole position atop the first round.
- John Harbaugh is right to keep making bold calls: For the second time in three weeks, the Ravens lost after a failed two-point conversion attempt. But that doesn't mean the decision was wrong, Mike Jones writes.
- NFL teams better buckle up. COVID outbreaks could bring mayhem to the playoffs: With more than 100 players league-wide testing positive for COVID last week, the NFL gets a glimpse of what could go down during the playoffs, Jarrett Bell writes.
- Forget NFL draft order: Lions' win over Cards does more for their future: Lions and coach Dan Campbell are trying to build something, and winning helps. So don't worry so much about where they end up in the draft order, Shawn Windsor writes.
- Are Patriots contenders or pretenders? It’s natural to overreact in NFL. But what should we make of the Patriots after their loss to the Colts?
- Prayer answered as Colts beat the loathsome Patriots: On the day we learned what "church time" is in the NFL, the Colts beat the Patriots because God is good – and because Jonathan Taylor is great, Gregg Doyel writes.
