New kickoff rule, ban on hip-drop tackle could happen this week

Could how the NFL handles kickoffs fundamentally change starting with the 2024 season?

The sports world might have been focused on the hardwood over the past week with the women's and men's NCAA Tournaments underway and brackets getting busted, but the football world steamrolls toward the 89th NFL Annual Player Selection Meeting.

There's still a month until the draft, but there will be news coming from the league this week as the NFL's annual league meeting is taking place in Orlando, Florida. So be on the lookout for updates from that on possible rule changes for …

USA TODAY Sports' Jarrett Bell and Safid Deen will be reporting from the league meetings, so make sure to check back for updates.

NFL mock draft: New landing spots for top QBs

Could the Vikings make a bold move to trade up in the draft to select North Carolina QB Drake Maye?

Nate Davis updated his mock draft in the wake of the opening of the new league year and free agency, which saw the Atlanta Falcons acquire Kirk Cousins and his former team, the Minnesota Vikings, pick up an additional first-round pick. If history is any indicator, there's another pre-draft trade or two β€” whether involving players and/or high-end picks β€” that will further alter the landscape.

While Caleb Williams is still the projected top pick, things get interesting following the obvious No. 1 selection for the Chicago Bears.

NFL free agency grades

Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers agreed to a three-year contract this offseason.

The first few days of free agency provided plenty of player movement and potential roster-altering developments. Veteran movement will continue at a reduced pace in the weeks and months ahead, as most of the prominent players already have charted their paths forward.

Nate Davis breaks down the teams that have aced free agency so far (Atlanta Falcons, Tampa Bay Buccaneers) and others that have not (Carolina Panthers, Jacksonville Jaguars).

When does the new UFL season kick off?
