The U.S. government announced major changes to vaccine distribution on Tuesday – how are states responding to them?

So far, it's a mixed bag. Some states, including New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, are expanding eligibility requirements to those at least 65 years old, in accordance with new federal guidance.

However, others are holding off on implementing the new guidance, citing supply concerns.

It's Wednesday, and this is Coronavirus Watch from the USA TODAY Network. Here's more news to know today, as of 1 p.m. EST.

  • Postponements are piling up in the NBA as teams grapple with COVID-19 cases in their locker rooms. The league announced stricter health measures on Tuesday, but at least one player, Oklahoma City's George Hill, pushed back on the new rules. “I’m a grown man, so I’m gonna do what I wanna do,” Hill said. On Wednesday, the league postponed a game for the sixth time this week
  • What will COVID-19 look like in the future? It could wind up resembling a "minor, cold-causing" virus in the long run, according to a model developed by scientists at Emory University and Penn State University.
  • 4,000 people died of COVID-19 in the US in a single day, Tuesday's Johns Hopkins University data showed. That's just the second time daily deaths have eclipsed 4,000, with the first coming days ago on Jan. 8.

Are you struggling to cover housing costs? Here's what to know about the $25 billion in rental assistance that was included in the most recent stimulus bill.
