What is safe to do if you're fully vaccinated?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released guidelines Monday designed to ease restrictions for Americans who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

  • The agency’s guidelines state those who have received a full course of vaccine may get together with other fully vaccinated individuals in small groups inside their homes without masks or physical distancing. They can also visit with unvaccinated people from one other household who are at low risk for severe disease.
  • The guidelines say fully vaccinated people don’t need to quarantine or take a COVID-19 test if they’ve been exposed, unless they’re symptomatic. However, they should still monitor for symptoms for 14 days even if they're not in quarantine.
  • The guidelines say vaccinated individuals should still wear a mask and social distance in public settings and avoid medium- to large-sized gatherings.

It's Monday, and this is the Coronavirus Watch from the USA TODAY Network. Here's more news you need to know:

  • The U.S. vaccination rate has risen to an average of 2.2 million doses per day, White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator Jeff Zients announced.
  • The U.S. House isexpected to finalize the Biden administration's $1.9 trillion stimulus plan Tuesday. It could head to Biden's desk for his signature that day, and stimulus checks could go out soon after.
  • Colorado health officials are advising anyone who participated in a raucous Boulder party-turned-riot to quarantine for at least 10 days and to get tested for COVID-19. The event turned so violent a car was flipped over and a police SWAT team used tear gas to break up the crowd.
  • Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson said Sunday that he will end a mask mandate next month if the state's test positivity rate or hospitalizations are low. Hutchinson on Friday lifted most of the safety restrictions placed on businesses to curb transmission of the coronavirus.
  • Israel started vaccinating Palestinians who work inside the country and its West Bank settlements on Monday. Over 3.7 million Israelis – more than 40% – have received two doses of the vaccine, but Israel had provided few vaccines for Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Today's numbers: The U.S. has reported more than 29 million COVID-19 cases and 525,000 deaths, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. Worldwide, there have been more than 116.9 million cases and more than 2.5 million deaths. In the U.S., more than 17% of people have received at least one vaccine shot, and more than 9% of people have received both doses, according to the CDC.
