We needed help with my mother was diagnosed with cancer

USA TODAY

We're going to lead this newsletter with an emotional plea on behalf of family members who are caring for a loved one diagnosed with cancer.

See what a family went through trying to provide loving care for their mother.

How caring for a loved one who has cancer

I was a junior in college when my mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2004. My twin sister and I were only 20 years old, and our older sister was 22. We were so young. In addition to coming to terms with the reality that we were losing our mother, we suddenly found ourselves caring for a cancer patient – a job that required a skill set none of us had.

Criminal or smart?

Tax avoidance is a national pastime that employs thousands of very smart people. But when the biggest beneficiaries of the tax-avoidance loopholes are the same individuals, families and entities whose money most influences who gets elected and how they legislate, forgive me for seeing a big blur when I look for the line between criminal and smart.

Moderate Democrats are beating the left

One of the most enduring but false pieces of conventional political wisdom is that, for Democrats, all the energy is on the left. Powering that myth is the misconception that most voters of color skew hard to port. This fallacy is dangerous, because if Democrats get it wrong, the midterm elections and future presidential contests will be in deep jeopardy.

What about these?
