Decline of men on college campuses will hurt America

By The Editorial Board

Figuring out why men aren't enrolling in college should be a national priority, as should taking steps to achieve a healthier balance between men and women in higher education.

The Department of Education, under the Biden administration, needs to launch the search for answers, and Congress should ensure potential remedies that emerge are put into practice.

America as a whole will be better off when each generation includes similar numbers of men and women who have graduated from college.

How Task Force Pineapple saved Americans trapped in Afghanistan

By Jason Redman

I was honored to play a part an effort that became known as Task Force Pineapple, taken from the code word the first high-risk interpreter used to make it into the airport in Kabul on his way to freedom.

We built a citizen-liaison network to protect Americans and other dedicated allies being left behind during the chaotic and expedited withdrawal of the U.S. military, intelligence and diplomatic presence from the country.

Labor of grief: Biden's bereavement leave plan doesn't go far enough

By Stacey Torres

Even with some employers postponing fall office returns over delta variant concerns, perhaps millions of American workers will carry complex grief to their in-person and remote workplaces. My grief has slid from the unfinished business of the pandemic to my father’s recent death from cancer. Like those untouched olives, I’ve barely digested my accumulated losses.

Companies remain woefully unprepared to support workers mourning everything from our pre-pandemic way of life to lost wages, homes, relatives, friends and colleagues. Despite grief’s associated health risks – including disturbed sleep and elevated cortisol, blood pressure and heart rate, weakened immune response and increased mortality, the United States has no mandated employee bereavement leave.

The three days of paid bereavement leave in President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better Agenda would provide all workers with an overdue minimum standard.
