Aurora victim asks candidates about guns in ad

A survivor of the mass shooting inside a Colorado movie theater is making a plea for President Obama and Mitt Romney to address gun violence in their first debate this week.

Stephen Barton shows the wounds on his face and neck that he suffered when a gunman opened fire in an Aurora movie theater on July 20. Twelve people were killed and 57 others were wounded.

"This past summer in a movie theater in Colorado I was shot," Barton says in the ad sponsored by Mayors Against Illegal Guns. "But I was lucky. In the next four years, 48,000 Americans won't be so lucky. Enough to fill over 200 theaters."

Obama and Romney will face off in their first debate Wednesday at the University of Denver. The debate will focus on domestic issues such as the economy and health care.

In the wake of the Aurora shooting, both Obama and Romney rejected calls for new gun laws. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a co-founder of the group behind the Barton ad, has criticized Obama and Romney for not outlining a plan to reduce gun violence.
