Bill Clinton is in demand for Democrats

USATODAY
Former president Bill Clinton campaigns for Barack Obama in New Hampshire.

Where's Bill Clinton? Judging from Democrats running for Congress, the former president is in high demand in many states and districts.

Today, Clinton is at the University of California at Davis, where he's stumping for two House incumbents and two candidates. Then he heads to Las Vegas, for a rally with Senate nominee Shelley Berkley.

Wednesday, Clinton is off to Arizona to help former surgeon general Richard Carmona in his Senate bid. Then on Friday, he'll be in Iowa and Indiana.

That's a robust schedule for someone not on the ballot. Nearly 10 years after leaving the White House, Clinton's popularity helps explain some of his frequent flying.

He had a 69% favorability rating in a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll -- his personal best -- and that was before he gave his nominating speech for President Obama at the Democratic convention. Those remarks earned Clinton the title of "Secretary of Explaining Stuff" from Obama.

"It's a privilege to have President Clinton's support in this election," said Christie Vilsack, an Iowa Democrat who will be campaigning with Clinton later this week.

Watch for Republicans to have a different view.
