Paul Ryan: Debate was what he expected

GOP vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan makes a gesture while debating Joe Biden.

Paul Ryan told reporters Friday morning that he was feeling good about his debate against Vice President Biden.

The GOP vice presidential nominee said it went about the way he thought it would, according to several news accounts from reporters traveling with Ryan. Last week, Ryan said during a radio interview that he was ready for Biden to "come flying" at him like a "cannonball."

Asked by a reporter whether he felt "knocked around" by his Democratic rival, Ryan said, "No, it was what I expected."

Ryan got a call last night from Mitt Romney, who congratulated his running mate on his performance against Biden on Thursday night at Centre College in Danville, Ky.

Ryan also got kudos Friday morning from Ann Romney, who told a Michigan audience that the debate underscored why her husband picked the Wisconsin congressman for the No. 2 job.

"I think people can understand why Mitt made that choice," Ann Romney said. "Because what he saw in Paul was a level head, very smart. You can tell, it came through, the kind of character that this man has. He has such integrity."
