Akin compares McCaskill to a 'dog'

Republican Rep. Todd Akin of Missouri has made a series of controversial comments during his Senate race.

GOP Rep. Todd Akin likened Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill to a dog who plays "fetch" and brings back higher taxes and more regulation to Missouri.

Akin's comments on "legitimate rape" have already caused top Republicans to abandon him in the U.S. Senate race. His latest remark was made during a fundraising event Saturday and was first reported by the website PoliticMo.com.

"She goes to Washington, D.C., and it's a little bit like one of those dogs, 'fetch,' " he said, "She goes to Washington, D.C., and gets all of these taxes and red tape and bureaucracy and executive orders and agencies and brings all of this stuff and dumps it on us in Missouri."

Akin has also come under fire in this campaign for saying McCaskill was more "ladylike" during her 2006 race against Republican Jim Talent. His latest words are coming to light as a new Public Policy Polling survey shows McCaskill leading Akin, 46% to 40%, among likely voters.
