Romney: Clinton said Hurricane Sandy helped Obama

Mitt Romney apparently got a dose of Bill Clinton's smooth-talking ways after the presidential election.

The Republican nominee recounted for donors on Wednesday the phone call he got from the ex-president after being defeated by President Obama.

According to ABC News, Romney said he chatted with Clinton for about 30 minutes and -- among other things -- the Democrat said he thought President Obama's rival could have won the White House until Hurricane Sandy hit. ABC News obtained audio of the phone call.

"He said a week out I thought you were going to win," Romney is quoted as saying. "And he said, but the hurricane happened, and it gave the president a chance to be presidential, and to look bipartisan."

Then, Romney said, Clinton "got a little more momentum" during their call and said that while he was watching Ann Romney speak at the Republican convention "he decided he was tempted to join the Republican Party."

"So he may have just been effusive with generous comments as he chatted," Romney said about Clinton, whose gift of gab is in a league of its own.
