Your Say: Where does truth lie in Libya?

Days before the attack, Libyan officials warned the embassy and the State Department that things were getting out of control, their lives were in danger and the Libyan government could no longer offer them the protection they needed.

As the anniversary of 9/11 approached, President Obama skipped intelligence briefings. He went to Vegas, met with people like Jay-Z and appeared on television shows.

U.S. ambassador Chris Stevens was killed during Sept. 11 attack on Libyan embassy. Many have been protesting against militia groups since.

Security for an embasy should be provided by the host county, peroid. Instead of these hearings the House should be passing the president's jobs bill, and asking Mitt Romney to release his taxes. This is nothing more than a side show circus!

People are missing the point. Ten days after the attack, the administration was still claiming it was because of a movie. But records show that everybody knew it was a terrorist attack immediately, well everyone but the Obama administration. They are either incompetent or covering up a huge security lapse.

Actually the video was the reason the Middle East went crazy.

It may not have been the motivation for the attack in Libya, but it was responsible for some of the riots. What other reason was there? Obama has been president for four years. There weren't any riots on this level directed at the U.S. before. Why now?

Adam Smith

There have been too many explanations of why this may have happened from the White House.

They've said it was a mob, then that it was a movie, then that it may have been planned, then that it was al-Qiada that planned it. Now we're hearing that it was because there was not sufficient security.

How can we believe anything the White House is putting out? It all sounds like spin to cover what President Obama failed to do.

The ambassador is dead. Other Americans and Libyans are dead. Let's learn from it and move on. The ambassador was keenly aware, as all of our foreign services officers are, that there is inherent danger in serving abroad and especially in the Middle East. This is the unfortunate price we pay for continuing the neoconservative doctrine of American exceptionalism.

The U.S. should not be in the Middle East as it is not in our national interest. Were this not an election year, the vast majority of us would not even shed the slightest concern for his death. Given the opportunity to politicize it, we will. It's good to be an American where so few make sacrifices for the greater good, but so many take issue with steps taken by those elected to continue the American way of life, which allows for limited participation for maximum individual gain .

This is why the consulate should be in charge of its own security decisions. The people there are the ones who know better than anyone the risks and what they need.
