#tellusatoday: In rape cases, should abortion be legal?

We asked our readers on Twitter, in light of Indiana Senate candidate Richard Mourdock's comment on rape, what they thought about an exemption for sexual assault in abortion law. Comments have been edited for clarity and grammar:

A baby ("fetus") is a human being. It has a separate DNA. Therefore, abortion is murder always. What about adoption?

-- @HarpAmyStabler

Indiana Senate candidate Richard Mourdock set off a furor when asked Tuesday whether abortion should be allowed in cases of rape or incest.

The fact that this question has been proposed shows how far religious extremists have pushed us backwards with women's rights.

-- @christopherrupp

If politicians can't separate religion from politics, then they shouldn't run for public office.

-- @Numbr1critic

Abortion is a terrible thing that should continue to be legal in the U.S. Get government out of our choices.

-- @bonsaibean

Mourdock's reasoning is wacky because religion is wacky.
