Your Say: John Kerry a reasonable pick

Sen. John Kerry was nominated Friday to be secretary of State. Letter to the editor and comments from Facebook:

Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass.

Commentary writer DeWayne Wickham is off-base in his criticism of the GOP's treatment of Susan Rice and preference for John Kerry as secretary of State ("John Kerry for State, a win for GOP").

Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., have every right to demand answers to the lingering mysteries surrounding the terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya. The Obama administration was looking to downplay the threat of al-Qaeda in the weeks leading up to the election, and Rice's comments fit conveniently into its agenda. Given that Kerry has support from both sides of the aisle and is not involved in an ongoing investigation, he is clearly the better choice.

Sen. John Kerry might not be a favorite of the GOP, but he does have the résumé for the job. He is most qualified for the position.

John Mathewson

I do not like the choice and do not like anything Kerry stands for. However, I don't think he will fly around the globe apologizing like President Obama did.

Jim Hastings

Kerry is back in the spotlight. Let's see all the discredited Swift Boaters reattempt their character assassination of a true patriot.

The man served in a wrong war for his nation, earning three Purple Hearts. Why are people mad at Kerry for calling the Vietnam War wrong earlier than others did?
