Is Obamacare working? Your Say

With open enrollment in Affordable Care Act exchanges underway, the health law still faces challenges from Republicans as well as a Supreme Court case. Comments from Facebook are edited for clarity and grammar:

To begin with, this was a flawed law. It has done little to check the rising cost of health care, and many people who had insurance are now being dragged into the morass of higher premiums.

— Lou Creola

Before people blame Obamacare for increasing health insurance premiums, don't forget that premiums were rising before the law passed.

I agree that the law has done very little to check increases, but it surely is not primarily to blame for them.

Steve Hall

Repeal and replace this unconstitutional law. It was rammed down our throats before the Democrats even read it. It's time to get rid of it.

Andy Degeus

The old system was completely broken, driving people into bankruptcy as companies peddled junk insurance. No way America can afford to go back.

Tyler Rausous

For all those who say free market reforms will fix health care, I'd love to know how that would work. In the free market, those who can afford something can obtain it. So what do we do with some guy who has been laid off from a job with no insurance, and he has a heart attack? Do we treat him for free? Who will cover that cost?

Julius Cheng

The one thing that is needed is an analysis of whether the Affordable Care Act is doing what it said it would do.

Yes, more people have insurance, but how many have such a high deductible they can't even use it? How many people are better off and how many are not? It's a reasonable question.

Deception used to pass health law

Letters to the editor:

Jonathan Gruber, an architect of Obamacare, was videotaped at a conference stating that a lack of transparency and relying on the stupidity of the American voter was critical to passing the health care law. He goes on to say that lying to the public was regrettable, but the outcome made it worthwhile.

What condescending arrogance!

It's absolutely reprehensible that people who worked for the Obama administration would pull the wool over our eyes in order to get what they think is good for us!

Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., wrote a book titled "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them," which was directed at the Bush administration, Republicans and conservatives. Maybe he should write another one with the same title directed at the Obama administration, Democrats and liberals.

Ken Katt; Littleton, Colo.

If the Republicans repeal Obamacare, we will lose the elimination of the lifetime limit on benefits from our health insurance. That means that we would again be one heart attack away from bankruptcy. We would also lose any possibility of leaving an estate to our children and grandchildren. How could anyone possibly want to do this to America's retired and elderly?
