Greetings and Salutations -
It's no small honor to kick off the first week of Guest Bloggerpalooza here on Pop Candy, but before I introduce myself, let's all take a few moments to send smiles and good thoughts out to the new mom in the house, Whitney. I think we can all agree that she's going to be a very, very cool mom.
Of course, Whitney's absence leaves me standing in some hard-to-fill Chuck Taylors this week, but here's hoping we can have some fun over the next five days.
If the byline looks familiar, that's because this isn't the first time I've dropped by Pop Candy for a chat. Way back in June 2010, I contributed a guest column about people from the comics world you should be following on Twitter. When I wrote that column, I was the editor of Splash Page, an MTV News blog that covered the cross-pollinating worlds of comics, movies, and television. These days, I'm a footloose and fancy-free freelance writer, editor, and columnist for a variety of entertainment and pop-culture outlets, including Spike TV, Movies.com, Digital Trends, and IFC.com, where I also write a weekly column about graphic novels that would make great movies.
All told, I've spent almost a decade writing about – and editing and producing – coverage of comics and comics-related projects. And what a decade it's been, eh? It seems like it was full-speed ahead on comic book adaptations once Spider-Man hit theaters back in 2002, and with The Avengers breaking all kinds of box-office records and The Walking Dead doing the same on TV, the last few years have been kind to "professional geeks" like myself.
With that in mind, it only seems right to treat the next five days like one of those conversations I always seem to get into with Whitney and some of the other great ambassadors of nerdery out there whenever a few of us end up in the same room.
Sure, I'm going to talk comics (of course), but that won't be all that's on my mind this week. You can be certain we'll chat about Doctor Who once or twice (Fun fact: I once made a cameo in a Doctor Who comic) and make the next few days a wibbly-wobbly mix of TV, games, movies, and even a little music, too. At the end of the week, if you feel compelled to pick up something that wasn't on your radar before I came along, I'll consider it a win – but I'll be even more happy if you can send a few good recommendations my way, too.
So now that we've got all of that out of the way, just consider me the guy crashing on the couch here at Pop Candy HQ, folks. Feel free to say hello on Twitter and let me know what you're psyched about this week.
