Scary cocktails for your Halloween bash

'Let's Bring Back the Cocktail Edition' by Lesley M.M. Blume

It's funny how Halloween has become such a popular holiday among adults. When I was a kid, back in the '70s, kids were really into Halloween but it wasn't really something that adults got into. I don't even remember any adults dressing up back then, but times have changed. I know many adults that say Halloween is their favorite holiday, even more than Christmas or Thanksgiving or even (gasp) Arbor Day.

But that doesn't mean that Halloween isn't without its charms. Everyone loves a good scare now and then, and any holiday that gives you an excuse to eat a lot of candy, well, that's pretty cool. (I'll have Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, please.)

Lesley M.M. Blume, author of the ridiculously entertaining (and much-needed) book Let's Bring Back, which looks at things from the past that should make a comeback, has a new book in the series titled Let's Bring Back: The Cocktail Edition, where she lists the history and recipes for lost drinks from the past that we should try again. She has several scary cocktails (or, as she calls them, "ghoulish libations from bygone eras") in the book, including The Six Feet Under Cocktail, Green-Eyed Monster, The Hell Cocktail, The Old Salem Smash, and Zombie Punch (good for your Walking Dead marathons).

On her site, Blume has the recipe for The Third Rail Cocktail (you'll need absinthe). Just don't drink a bunch of them and then hang around a subway platform.
