In the spirit of the week, I want to give a quick "thanks" to Whitney Matheson for giving me the chance to write for this blog, which has become as much of a morning ritual as that first cup of coffee for myself and many pop culture enthusiasts.

I stumbled on Pop Candy probably like most of you; by surfing the Web and coming across a link that sparked my interest. Perhaps the thing about the Pop Candy community that surprises me most is in the way it effortlessly transfers its enthusiasm to different interests. The best example I can think of was a few years ago. It was a given the day after a Lost episode, the boards would be filled with "gut" reactions and conspiracy theories. When Lost ended its run, I wondered how the blog itself would change in lieu of the show's absence. No sooner than a few months later, a little show called The Walking Dead came out, and lo and behold, it's like the community didn't miss a beat. It's a great, supportive environment for anyone who is passionate about music, movies, great TV, and comics.

As for myself, I've been writing about music for almost 20 years. I'm currently a writer for PopMatters. I mainly do album reviews and commentary. I also contribute to the music review website The Daily Vault and Hear Nebraska, a non-profit website dedicated to promoting Nebraska-based artists and musicians. On the news end, I'm a freelance reporter for an Omaha alt-weekly. As rewarding as all of these gigs are, they aren't enough to pay for a student loan, car payment, mortgage and a Weimaraner with an insatiable appetite for tennis balls, so I work as a full-time technical writer for a tech company.

As the above states, don't be surprised if I tend to lean more toward the music end of the pop culture spectrum. However, I know the appetites of Candy Nation, so I'll be sure to keep a lookout for all things comics, movies, and Walking Dead. Thanks again, Whitney (and PopCandy readers) for this great opportunity!
