Jenaye M. Peterson’s Inspiring Journey to Disrupting the Law Industry with Care and Humility

Within the supportive walls of JM Law, a game-changing law firm based in Georgia, Jenaye M. Peterson fulfills her lifelong passion for helping people. While academic accolades from the renowned North Carolina Central University School of Law and comprehensive knowledge fuel Jenaye’s successful career, it is her people-centric approach to applying the law and holding wrongdoers accountable, that inspires all her endeavors, from zealous advocacy in and outside the courtroom to improving her community and empowering women and at-risk teens.  

Growing up, Jenaye would spend most afternoons listening to inspiring Bible readings and heart-warming preaches at a local church, where her father has been fulfilling the pastor role for over 15 years. The communal support, profound connections, and selfless service resounded in her mind and soul ever since, ultimately shaping her career and directing her onto the law path. Fusing her deeply rooted love for people with her outgoing, bubbly, extroverted personality, Jenaye fostered a compassionate environment at JM Law. 

Central to Jenaye’s ethos is the belief that past mistakes should never dictate the future. To give clients who have committed misdemeanors and nonviolent felonies a second chance, the empathetic attorney specializes in expungements, a law sector that erases certain offenses from criminal records. “Everyone deserves a second chance, especially considering 40% of Georgia adults have a criminal record,” she adds. “Regretted crimes from the past should never be for public shame. It’s not just about a stained record; expungement is about a liberated future of better job, housing, and educational opportunities.”  

Throughout her experience, Jenaye helped many clients - specifically young Black men - pro bono. That approach illustrates her commitment to authentic service, one where financial gain is secondary to the satisfaction felt after changing someone’s life. In the future, she hopes to accept an opportunity to represent and empower more women, guiding them throughout the complex yet rewarding expungement process. 

Personal injury is Jenaye’s main focus, specializing in car accident cases where her clients have been a victim. In this arena, she ensures individuals hurt in inconvenient and unexpected events receive the necessary aid to sail as smoothly as possible through the challenges of recovery. More than legal advice, Jenaye offers encouragement and genuine care, not only improving but significantly enriching clients’ livelihoods, “I am changing the negative narrative of attorneys, one client at a time,” Jenaye asserts.  

Defying the common pretentious perception of lawyers, Jenaye fuels all her ventures with humility. Her humble and down-to-earth personality instills a sense of safety among clients, making them believe that no case is too small to deserve dedication and undivided attention.  

April 1st, 2020, marked one of the most life-defining moments in Jenaye’s career when - amidst the rising pandemic turmoil - she opened JM Law. Unlike many businesses established as a plan B for people losing jobs, Jenaye made the decision to leave a previous company consciously despite having just bought a new house and giving birth to her first child. Though her loved ones encouraged her to postpone this decision, Jenaye persevered, guided by the confirmations she received from God. 

The complete trust in her faith and the higher purpose helped Jenaye overcome the challenges of navigating multiple transitional changes at the same time, cementing her beliefs and values, which now are the foundation of JM Law. “Though JM Law was founded on April 1st, the joke was not on me nor on my clients,” she humors. “We have been successful ever since, proving to all those who doubted my decision that trusting in God is always the right choice. It’s incredibly rewarding to watch JM Law flourish, knowing I have never strayed from the values and morals of honesty, integrity, and humility that have guided me since childhood.”
