Fox draws lowest Series Game 2 overnight rating ever

Fox's Detroit-San Francisco World Series, no matter how long it lasts, seems on track to become the lowest-rated Series ever.

After a lopsided Series Game 1, Game 2 was relatively close.

But that didn't help ratings. After drawing an all-time low rating for Game 1, Fox drew an 8.8 overnight rating for Thursday's Game 2, which translates into 8.8% of households in the 56 urban markets measured for overnights

That's down 12% from last year's Series game 2 -- and the lowest Game 2 overnight ever.

Relatively speaking though, you can still see how the Series helps the network: It produced Fox's best prime time rating since March, when its ratings were boosted by American Idol.

And MLB and Fox can at least say it had a rare instance when baseball overwhelmed NFL action. Tampa Bay's win over Minnesota on the NFL Network drew a 3.9 overnight, which is the lowest overnight for an NFLN game so far this season.

But part of the reason Fox's MLB overwhelmed NFLN's action has to do with distribution. Fox's reaches about 115 million U.S. TV households, while NFLN reaches about 75 million households.
