Legendary sportscaster Warner Wolf arrested, accused of removing 'racist' sign
Jessica RodriguezSportscaster Warner Wolf turned himself in and was arrested Thursday after he broke letters off a sign at the entrance of the Classics Plantation Estates community in East Naples, Florida, deputies said.
Wolf, 81, faces a felony charge of criminal mischief, says an arrest report from the Collier County Sheriff's Office.
In monthly meetings with the Classics Plantation Estates Homeowners Association, Wolf has spoken about the word "plantation," the report states.
"He had his opinions about how it was a racist word and he didn’t feel that it should be in the name of community, although plenty of communities throughout Florida use that name," property manger Ken Heff said.
Surveillance video from Nov. 30 shows a man matching Wolf's description removing the word "plantation" from the sign with a tool, the arrest report states.
Wolf drove up to the gate at Classics Plantation on Dec. 13 and handed the security guard the broken "plantation" letters that were removed from the sign with instructions to give them to the property manager, according to the report.
Wolf was released from jail after posting a $5,000 bond, according to the Collier County Clerk of Courts website.
