Plainfield diver Daryn Wright is headed to the Paris Olympics.

Wright finished second Sunday on 10-meter platform in the U.S. Olympic Trials at Knoxville, Tenn. Only winner Delaney Schnell was guaranteed a spot in the Olympics.

World Aquatics notified USA Diving on Thursday it was awarded a second spot.

Wright said it “has been a long four days” and that she was “emotional, but very shocked” by the news.

Purdue diver Daryn Wright competes in the 2024 Big Ten Championships.

“It was hard because I didn’t necessarily know the odds, if they were good or not, just because it had taken so long to see if we had the second spot,” she said. “My mind was racing in probably every possible direction, but I’m glad today was good.”

Wright, a Purdue diver, was surprised by friends and family at the Boilermakers' pool Thursday morning.

Schnell earned a spot for the United States by finishing sixth at the 2023 World Championships. Wright was 24th in prelims at February’s 2024 World Championships in Doha.

Wright, 20, has a long resume. She was 2021 winter national champion on 10-meter. Also that year, she won three medals in the Junior Pan American Championships at Tucson, Ariz., including golds on 10-meter and 1-meter.

In March’s NCAA Championships, she was fifth on 10-meter and 13th on 3-meter.

In Wright's only high school state meets, she was second on 1-meter in 2019 and 2020.

Out of 13 Olympic spots, divers with Indiana connections have claimed nine, and by seven different divers.
