2023 IndyCar Series champion Alex Palou is the defending Honda 200 champion, as he led 48 of the 80 laps in last year's race and his average speed mph was 111.125. The driver with the most Honda 200 wins throughout the history of the race is Scott Dixon with six wins. The manufacturing team with the most wins is Chip Ganassi Racing and Team Penske, both with 12 wins.

The IndyCar Series will debut the first-of-its-kind hybrid unit at the Honda 200 race. The 2.2-liter, twin-turbocharged V-6 engine was paired and tested with hybrid power on Aug. 16, 2023 at Sebring International Raceway in Sebring, Florida and in seven months, a total of 23,518 miles were successfully completed among 28 IndyCar Series drivers. The new powerplant unit will feature additional overtake (Push to Pass) options, ultimately giving IndyCar Series drivers more choices and control that is aimed to enhance the on-track competition and excitement.
