WASHINGTON -- Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillin remained undefeated and retained his WBO middleweight title Saturday night with a thorough beating of veteran Lukas Konecny of the Czech Republic.

The fight was part of a strong undercard for Showtime's Bernard "The Alien" Hopkins-Beibut Shumenov light heavyweight unification bout at the D.C. Armory.

Quillin, from Brooklyn, improved to 31-0 (22 KOs) with his unanimous decision, while Konecny fell to 50-5 with 23 KOs. Two of the three ringside judges scored the fight 119-109 with the third scoring it 120-108. Quillin connected on 403 punches to Konecny's 197.

"He was a tough customer and came to fight and that's what the fans wanted to see," Quillin said.

In the eighth round, Konecny began bleeding from the nose after taking a right hand from Quillin, but fought back with some combination head and body shots of his own. Konecny avoided any knockdowns.

Quillin said he would like to fight middleweight title holders Sergio Martinez and Gennady Golovkin down the road, but figures to next fight another Brooklyn native, Danny Jacobs, who was doing color analyst work for Showtime during this fight card. Regular Showtime analyst Paulie Malignaggi was fighting Saturday against Shawn Porter for Porter's welterweight title.

Konecny said "Quillin is a good fighter and a good champion but not a great one." He said he would like to continue fighting in the U.S.
